Sorry I haven't updated my blog in so long. I've been staying in Mississippi with my Aunt Brenda. My Uncle Raymond just passed away in April and then she received horrible news! She called my grand mother and told her that she's in bad health and has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. It was fast growing, and she had to have surgery asap. The news hit me hard and I broke down. Aunt Brenda just lost Uncle Raymond to Cancer, and has to deal with cancer herself. There was noway I could sit here in Tennessee thinking of her while she had to battle this alone. So, Jeremiah drove me there a day after her surgery to take care of her.
Of course the whole way down there I prepared to see her in the worst possible condition. Just in case, I would be able to except it better. When we arrived and I saw her sitting up, and walking around by herself. It was a blessing!! The old saying "You can't Keep a Good Woman Down" is the truth. They removed her left breast, and she held a pillow under her arm. She has a tube that's draining the fluids off of her chest. She gets it removed Thursday.
My Aunt Ellen her sister, was also there supporting her in every way. She just lost my Uncle Jack before Uncle Raymond passed, and ironically had her breast removed too. So, it was a very emotional time spending it with them. I've become very aware of the harm of breast cancer, and I am dealing with all of the emotional strain experienced with them. They have both survived and our family is so blessed to have them with us longer.
In a dedication I painted this Breast Cancer Awareness piece in their honor. The tree is symbolic for the family tree, with the pink ribbons to indicate the survivors and those who have passed. It helped me grieve when I herd the news. Hope it helps other relate, and strengthen those who are battling. Thanks-Shonna

Newsletters, and current project.
I've finally added a mailing list to my website! This is new to me, since I've never had to maintain constant feedback through the internet. I've had a few people ask where my subscription button was. I figure, it's going to make it easier to keep in contact with the fans who are interested in upcoming projects/paintings. I mentioned in the newsletter that, with me publishing it exclusively - it may not arrive on a weekly basis. Art takes time! Some work may take longer than others. If you want to sign up, you can go to my web page here. Anyway, I am so happy to be helping my friend out with her site, and receiving help from her as well. The
Juxtapoz Inspirations
The San Francisco contemporary magazine has influenced a lot of my pieces, for years. I remember roaming around our bookstores, here in Knoxville Tennessee and being memorized by each months cover. Traditional paintings are widely popular here (in the south). So, of course contemporary art is considered controversial - not as much today as it was 15 years ago. The demographics are changing constantly, and many westerners and northerners are bringing their skills around Knoxville. It's wonderful! I can't help but get excited about new cultures sharing their passions.
Anyway, back to Juxtapoz. I've interacted with many artists and publishers w
Autumn Breeze
This was digitally painted on my Wacom, (details) in Samsung Galaxy Note 4, and edited in PS5. She was a fun picture. The fall is my favorite season, mostly because my birthday in October 19th. I love waiting for the peak of the leaves color, right before they fall off of the trees. There's nothing like getting lost in the Smokey Mountains hiking too - for the best inspirations. For years, I've carried my sketchbooks around during each season. Mostly to jot down idea's, and more importantly to capture the colors. Of course autumn is the most vibrant scenery, well depending on where you're from. If you haven't experienced the overwhelming sens
Adding to the collection
I've been MIA for awhile now, after taking a break to be a new mommy. I've missed all of my friends here, and cannot wait to see what new inspirations are being made! Everyone brings such amazing talents, that it's impossible to have a favorite. But, I am honored to say that I have the BEST favorites and friends that anyone could ever have.
Some projects I've been working on are:
* A "Cajun" inspired painting of the New Orleans French Quarter at Night. It's been one of my biggest challenges yet! It's completely out of my comfort zone, being a "realist." This summer around our anniversary June 26th (also my dads bday Cemetary Visions) we pl

I lost my mother in 1991 to cancer, and now my step mother is battling it as well. My father has watched two women he loves go through this. I know how hard it is, and I will pray that you all get the support and strength you need to get through this. Miracles DO happen.
